Can the Mariners entertain a playoff run this season? They are currently 7 ½ games out of possible playoff spot and they would have to leapfrog; Kansas City, NY Yankees, Cleveland, Texas and Baltimore. Tom thinks all those teams have enough flaws for the Mariners to pass them. Matt thinks the playoffs are out of reach because they aren't a 90-win team. But the foundation looks to be in place so a playoff run next season should be the plan heading into the season. Plus the Mariners will have the 4th richest TV deal in baseball kicking in next season.
The baseball free agent class for 2014 isn't that great. The premier free agents are Jacoby Ellsbury, Shin Soo-Choo and 37-year-old Carlos Beltran. Even though the Mariners will have some money to spend now, is this the class to do it on?
Are you still not over the trades of Shin-Soo Choo and Asdrubal Cabrera for garbage? Tom is trying to argue that the reason the Mariners are looking good of late is because of those trades and the need to quickly promote Franklin, Zunino and Miller. Matt and Colin are saying if those trades weren't made, the Mariners might've not been so bad in the meantime.
