Bates: Finding five guys
By Liz Mathews
For offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates, patching together an offensive line every week is not supposed to be part of the game plan.
"That's not our goal," he said. "We need to find five (players) and stay with it because of communication and just the relationship that you form with the guy next to you and in the wars that you battle. We need to find five guys and guys have to get healthy. We just have to keep growing and getting better."
Bates referenced Seahawks' teams from the past, and save for the last couple of seasons, injuries were not such a huge concern. Bates did say, however, that no excuses are going to be made.
"Injuries do happen," Bates said. "The guys stepping in have to step up and take the role and it's an opportunity for them to play in the NFL."
Bates believes the offense needs to improve, and said it all begins in practice and team meetings.
"We've had good games," said Bates. "Protection, we've protected the ball, the protection has been there. We've had a couple good running games. We've just got to be consistent you know, the last two weeks have been not good at all.
"We've got to improve from that and keep going forward."
