GM John Schneider: Offensive and defensive lines are Seahawks' top priorities

Seahawks general manager John Schneider joined the Calabro show on Thursday and offered some thoughts on Seattle's offseason to-do list.

"Well, starting any organization or any football team I think you have to look at both sides of your line," Schneider said when asked what the team's highest priorities are this offseason. "So I would say offensive, defensive line are priorities for us, no question. But were looking for depth at every position. But I think it starts on both sides of the ball."

Schneider said the team and quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's representatives had "good discussions" before the CBA expired.

The only quarterback the Seahawks currently have under contract for next season is Charlie Whitehurst. When asked about the team's confidence in Whitehurst, Schneider praised the quarterback's play in Seattle's division-clinching win over the Rams and downplayed his struggles in an earlier loss to the Giants.

Schneider later said Hasselbeck's injury concerns were the reason for acquiring Whitehurst and signing him to a two-year deal last offseason.

I agree with building the Lines. C/W is Fun to Watch. He has excellent Skills. His Short game is really looking Great. I feel the Running game will do very well under C/W as QB. He can throw the Ball also very well. He does not throw the ball away, just a Great Find.

As much as I agree with stregthening the lines. Charlie Whitehurst sucks and needs to be sent down the road. The guy has shown nothing anywhere. He's only fun to watch if you're rooting for the other team!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trader Bob Witt, did't get it, Tim Ruskell did't get it, Finally, We have a GM that GET'S IT! Better days are finally coming!The 9er's have a line, the Rams have a line, AZ has the best line. You want to owen the WEST, You Have to Control The Line on BOTH SIDES Of The Ball! CW may or may not be the answer here,But One things for sure, If Pete & John go down, their going down w/ THEIR OWN PEOPLE! I LIke That attitude a lot..... Football people making football decisions! Charlie will do just fine with a good O-line and the leadership confidently behind him. He proved last year he can manage a game and that's all we need. He might even surprise some of you haters. Is he Payton Manning ? no. But he sure as heck isnt john skelton either... I say draft O-line, let Charlie run the show for a year. If he's horrible, we can pick up a QB and go from there.

Its all talk until he is standing there on the clock with the picks they have this year. He can say what he wants about....well what he wants but the fact remains if the best guy left on the board is a QB or a Cornerback or even a Linebacker he will take that player. Do you think he would be stupid enough to draft an O-lineman just becuase their is one available at that spot? No! if at 25 the best o-lineman left is projected for 3 round and the best D-lineman left is projected late second but Locker is there, well what do you think he will do? This is all talk. As they say "ya never know how you will react until your staring down the barrel of a gun"

He isnt Peyton manning....hahah he isnt even Rex Grossman. Ha Grossman is better is what im emplying here..hahaha just deficient comment. Ha and game manager? Yeah you manage the game well when you cant even throw a simple hitch route. i mean he wasnt even close to the guy when he threw those passes.

I laugh at your asertion that these new football people would have drafted Curry that high in thr draft just because some stupid draft analysis/expert thought he was the best player on the board.,What a joke! Green Bay's roster was'nt esemble by listening to some so-call draft expert tell them who they should take next off the board just because everybody and the mama say's so. ONLY the Seahawks bought that BS line & sinker. How does the pick look now Mr trueseattlefan? We're stuck w/ a LB that can't cover & lacks situational game instincts.I'm sure they would've either moved down in the draft or picked someone else other then Curry @ #6. This GM is NOT Ruskell Thank God! GB won a SB w/ John at the helm. You know nothing about the in's & out's of player acquisition. Leave it to the experts Homie, ur not a GM!

If you listen to the interview J Schnide says you "build" a team with the lines. BUT later on he says due to no free agency their plan is to take the best player available in each round. Then they will go from there. Personally, I'd love for a team to trade up to 25 with the Hawks moving back into the "early" second round and pick up a 3rd as well. Any player they want at 25 could very well be there at 35 plus they add more picks. Lord knows we need them!
