Pac-10 Results in Advance. I Don't Predict. I See the Future.
I'm gonna try this again.
Last season, I did so horribly that I decided to quit predicting games half-way through the season.
It's taken an entire off-season of number-crunching, game tape watching, conditioning, deep examination of my own being and of course, a thorough retraining of my psychic abilities and now, I feel that I can once again safely and correctly pick the winner of every game a Pac-10 team is involved in.
Just like last season, these are not guesses, this is what will happen.
Unlike last season, I will not let outside forces cloud my vision (or perhaps it was just nacho cheese that had dribbled on to my crystal ball?).
Here we go:
USC @ Hawaii - Hawaii fields the #1 most experienced team in the nation according to Phil Steele while USC comes in at #71 on that same list. USC is fresh off a tumultuous off-season, a coaching staff change, their worst season since 2001, a promise of no post-season this year and on top of all that, they have to travel a considerable distance. You thinkin' what I'm thinkin'? Yeah, they still beat up on the former Rainbows.
USC 37, Hawaii 20
Arizona @ Toledo - This may sound strange, but I've done a ton of research on Toledo.
Arizona 38, Toledo 24
UCLA @ Kansas State - If you haven't been keeping up with UCLA's injury woes, read this. OUCH. The Bruins were all ready thin on experience and now it's looking even worse. Kansas State, on the other hand, is also rebuilding, but with less young talent. UCLA's on the road, but it looks like marginally decent-ish QB Kevin Prince is going to play so... I gotta go with Ricky's Bruins.
UCLA 17, KSU 14
New Mexico @ Oregon - New Mexico will have its hands full trying to stop Jeremiah Masoli, especially when handing off to LaMichael James or when he's going deep to WRs Garrett Embry and Jamere Holland. Things get worse for the Lobos when they're on offense and have to try to stop DE Matt Simms from disrupting the backfield. Even if somehow they keep the Oregon O from scoring TDs, they'll have to deal with kicker Rob Beard nailing FGs all day long. Oh wait, they've all been suspended or kicked off the team. Way to run a tight ship, Chipper.
Oregon 45, New Mexico 9
UC Davis @ Cal - Since picking who wins in this one is really no fun, I predict that Shane Vereen runs for 300 yards.
Cal 60, UCD 6
Sac State @ Stanford - Since picking who wins in this one is really no fun, I predict that Andrew Luck throws 5 TDs.
Stanford 49, Sac State 10
Portland State @ Arizona State - Since picking who wins in this one is really no fun, I predict Vontaze Burfict picks up 11 personal foul penalties and eats a cheerleader by halftime.
ASU 35, PSU 13
TCU vs Oregon State - Finally, a game that's interesting! I'm on the Oregon State bandwagon. I'll admit it. They're a good team. BUT, much like every other prognosticator on the interwebs, I can't get over the fact that they can't seem to put together a good game against good teams in the early going. TCU is a good team and Game 1 is really early. It'll be close, but the Frogs will take it.
TCU 32, OSU 30
UW @ BYU - Is anyone else confused by this game? I'm by no means a fan of the UW but it seems to me that their talented offense vs a rebuilt BYU defense and fresh meat at QB equals a comfortable win for the Lavender Ladies. I guess the past 8 months of media rah-rah still hasn't convinced a deeply scarred fanbase (or oddsmakers) that their team can beat a middle-of-the-road former Mountain West team, but as an outside observer (and future-seer) I see a win. Cue hilarious national championship talk moments after the final whistle.
Washington 39, BYU 24
And finally, the game of the week!
WSU @ Oklahoma State - Oklahoma State is rebuilding in a major way, are really young, have a new QB and OC and are undoubtedly looking past WSU. WSU has spent the past year getting hit over the head by every media outlet and is dying to prove itself. With massive upgrades on the d-line, o-line, QB, WR, LB, RB, DBs and Special Teams (did I forget anyone?) and nothing to lose, what does the future hold?
WSU 35, OSU 31
Again, these are not guesses.
GO COUGS!
