Bill Cahill is the owner of Beacon Plumbing. He has lived right here in the Seattle area his entire life. He started Beacon Plumbing with just one truck and a helper. Bill now employs 65 full time employees and operates 40 plumbing trucks. Our trucks are on the road 24 hours a day and we are proud to be the Seattle area's #1 Plumbing and Heating Company.

And your donations are kept locally-focused. Strengthening neighborhoods, changing lives. That's the Safeway Foundation.As a company, Safeway has put an emphasis on hiring military veterans. In 2010, they launched the Junior Military Officers/Non-Commissioned Officers (JMO/NCO) program that accepts applicants who have been officers in the military and places them in an accelerated leadership program. To date:
- 43 JMOs/NCOs have been promoted to Store Managers, Plant Superintendents, Warehouse Superintendents, First Assistant Managers or Warehouse Supervisors
- 59 JMOs/NCOs are currently training to become Store Managers, Plant Superintendents, Warehouse Superintendents, First Assistant Managers or Warehouse Supervisors
- Six JMOs are on military leave
In addition to the JMO/NCO program, Safeway set a goal of hiring 1,000 veterans in 2012 into hourly positions in retail stores and various corporate positions. To date the company has exceeded that goal with 1,192 veteran hires and continues to not only partner with various veteran community populations, but also reaches out to support efforts such as Northwest Fisher House. With the over 1,000 veterans hired along with the Military officer program, Safeway will continue to hire over 1,000 veterans in 2013.
On April 10, 2012, Bonneville Seattle and partners announced a community partnership to help raise awareness and funds for the need for a second Fisher House.
About Fisher House Foundation
Fisher House Foundation is best known for the network of comfort homes built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. The Fisher Houses are 5,000 to 16,800 square-foot homes, donated to the military and Department of Veterans Affairs, where families can stay while a loved one is receiving treatment. Additionally, the Foundation ensures that families of service men and women wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan are not burdened with unnecessary expense during a time of crisis.
Located in close proximity to the medical center or hospital it serves, each Fisher House consists of between 8 and 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, spacious dining room and an inviting living room with a library and toys for children. Fisher House Foundation ensures that there is no fee to stay in a Fisher House. Since inception, the program has saved military and veteran families an estimated $192 million in out of pocket costs for lodging and transportation.
Fisher House Foundation operates the Hero Miles Program, using donated frequent flyer miles to bring family members to the bedside of injured service members. To date, Hero Miles has provided over 26,000 airline tickets to our military and their families. The Foundation also manages a grant program that supports other military charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses and children of fallen and disabled veterans.
