Troopers shoot man on southbound I-5, traffic blocked for hours

A fatal shooting involving a Washington State Patrol trooper closed all lanes of southbound I-5 just south of the Ship Canal Bridge for nearly five hours, Monday. The freeway reopened just before midnight.

The man then reportedly took out a can of green spray paint and began painting a circle in the middle of the interstate, said trooper Cliff Pratt. When one of the troopers ordered the man to stop and come back towards them, the man pulled out a knife.
