After taking the time to learn about the specific needs of her community, Kelly Wilson and her friends started Homeless Backpacks, a program that provides weekend food to homeless students in Thurston County. They organize backpack stuffing parties, fundraisers, and inspire their local community to get involved, helping serve over 500 students per week! Kelly Wilson’s vision and leadership have allowed Homeless Backpacks to grow exponentially over the last 11 years and her commitment to making a difference inspires those around her to do the same. KIRO Radio and your community credit union, WSECU, are proud to honor Kelly Wilson as a Hometown Hero and award her with $2,000! WSECU knows that when we join together as a community, we can do more. If you know of a Hometown Hero, an exceptional person who makes your community a better place to live, nominate that person at MyNorthwest.com/hero.
