Walt Hickey’s commitment to community service by inspiring others to serve and lend a hand to people in need has reached far and wide, from Seattle to Snoqualmie, and Tijuana to New Orleans. Walt’s dedication to bettering his community is apparent through the long list of projects he is involved in: organizing student leaders for flood relief aid, teaching high school for 44 years, and through the non-profit he started, Camino Maestro, which helps provide “dignified housing for all” by building homes in Tijuana. More recently, he and his students are building portable solar powered lighting for homeless encampments in Seattle.
KIRO Radio and your community credit union, WSECU, are proud to honor Walt Hickey as a Hometown Hero and award him with $2,000 as our way of saying thank you. If you know of a Hometown Hero, an exceptional person who makes your community a better place to live, nominate that person at mynorthwest.com/hero.
