Word of the Week: Vituperation

Yesterday morning I woke up late in my hotel room after the LA bowling party and started in on my coffee and NY Times. The Arts section had this whole story about the enduring love/hatred for the movie "Fight Club". One of the stars, Edward Norton, was interviewed and said this, "The critical reaction was polarized, but the negative half of that was as vituperative as anything I've ever been a part of." I didn't know what vituperative meant but I thought it was a great word and I'd have to look it up later.

Then, 15 minutes later, I start on the Book Review section. First page, a review of the new Stephen King book by James Parker, "Now that the town halls have blazed with vituperation...Americans ...must be feelings a familiar thrill.

Is this a brand new word? Is it baader-meinhof? Was it on some "word of the week" calendar? I don't know, but it seems important that I learn it. So as a PSA for the tens:

Vituperation is sustained, harshly abusive language; invective. (American Heritage Dictionary).

Use it for good.

TBTL in Los Angeles

We had the best time on Saturday night. The bowling was great, the karaoke was awesome (especially the crowds of interpretive dancers who added a special touch to each song) and all the tens who showed made the night a blast. Some had come from San Francisco, San Diego, Ventura...Todd was from Seattle. Plus all the locals who showed us a very good time. When we closed the bowling alley down at 2am, half the group was still heading for a taco truck down the street.

Check out the pictures from Megan here (please send me any you took that night and we'll add them to the slideshow.) You'll note the one picture of pins that Marie-Reine made from TBTL t-shirt design submissions which were a huge hit.

Just blew a tire

We're just outside of LA heading for the party and the Airstream blew a tire...and our lugnut wrench is for the Tahoe and doesn't fit the Bambi. So we're waiting for AAA and hoping these cars racing by keep their distance. (This shoulder is really narrow).

Michael Jordan's kid is ticking me off

For the last couple weeks everytime I see this story of the dispute between Marcus Jordan and his school over his insistance on wearing Air Jordans during games, my blood would simmer. But today, it's boiling.

marcus jordan

Today his college lost their 3 million dollar Adidas contract because Marcus Jordan wants to "honor his father"...by wearing a pair of shoes? Be respectful, call him on Sundays, give him a nice Father's Day gift...these are just some suggestions that don't include your school losing money they use to pay your teammate's scholarships...kids who didn't grow up with a massively rich father who has been praised and honored and respected every second of the last 30 years.

One other thing: to the boys in my high school who pranced around in their Air Jordans...they didn't make you better basketball players, get over it.
