Pete Carroll and John Schneider: the honey badgers
In a copy-cat league where personnel decisions and play-calling never gets very far out of the box, John Schneider and Pete Carroll buck traditional, safe decision making and do what they believe in.

    Depth is the other issue....
..with a honey badger approach. Pete n' John have added bench talent to such a degree anyone on their chart would be a starter elsewhere, to me, but w/o being recognized as such. Go figure. Gone a long way from "wha wha what?!" in 2009 when they came in to "hey hey hey!"

Bring em on. The Hawks haven't beat anyone in the division but on the other hand they haven't lost a game at home yet and all three remaining division games are home games. Barring a total collapse, the only game to be that concerned about the outcome is the Niners game and I kinda like the Hawks' chances in that one. As far as anyone getting ahead of themselves, you're probably missing the point of Wyman's comments. He's referring to the big picture, philosophies of Carroll and Schneider, and the long term direction this team is heading, not necessarily the expectations riding on this season although the expectations for this season are significantly higher than they have been in quite a while.

    Lets win
some playoff games before we get to far ahead of ourselves. Last I checked we have been below mediocre since Pete's arrival.

Do you consider this year's team below mediocre? Gotta look past the W-L records sometimes. After their 2-6 start last year the Hawks are 11-7, which tells me that they haven't quite reached the pinnacle yet but they are clearly turning the corner and are heading in that direction.

Also consider where they are at now as compared to the train wreck that Carroll and Schneider inherited when they got here. With the amount of time they've had so far (just over 2 years) the progress has been pretty impressive so far and they've done about as good a job as anyone could have done I think. The whole culture and identity of this franchise is transforming from a team known as being "soft" to a team gaining a rep for being tough, hard-hitting and physical.

Neat classy group. I still like that play with golden arm to sidney rice for the TD "Nice". I will always say attack that scoreboard often. I feel the Offense should carry the Defense. Then again thats just how I feel. I admire the Seahawks Defense with amazment. Keep up the Good work its a Great Show!!.

    If this team is enough....
...think back to the recent past when the Bye week was the highlight of the season. Good $$$ says its getting better and staying healthier. I'll take that if they say they don't give a flyin' toot as a team philosophy.

    The Point
The point Dave is making is the team is headed in the right direction with a slightly unorthodox approach. We are a young team that is bigger, faster, and has a nasty attitude. They have lost some close games on the road, but have always been competitive. That is a great sign folks. Coupled with RW's growth each week, this team is learning how to win in the NFL and it's exciting to watch. Give the front office and coaches some credit.

    I agree with every word!
Thanks for this comment. It is exactly as I see them. To me, RW is another Drew Brees in-the-making and I love, love, love the rest of the team. It irks me when the NFL and network broadcasters make fun of Pete's enjoyment of the game. I like to see the coach appreciate what the guys are doing. They are all keepers to me!

    Great Article, Dave
Gotta love coaches/managers who go against the grain and find success. If the Hawks continue their upward swing, other teams (in this copycat league) will soon be following our model.... Keep up the great work, Dave -- here on the blog and especially on the radio!

I am still learning the game so I really enjoy what he has to say on the radio. But this article is a real keeper, too.

This Team doesn't give a $@%#! what anyone thinks.....
about them, they just go about their business proving it on the field one game at a time.IMO yhey have not played their best game yet. If you take off the blinders and look at everyone in the NFC they've played over the last 2 yrs. you'll be surprised. All the pundits are talking about the Falcons,GB,Bears, the Giants,Cowboys & Saints & 49er's as the teams to represent the NFC. Last time I checked, this team has a 5-2 record against that group of teams.A close loss w/ the Falcons, that should've been a win if not for the QB play,GB win, take away the last PLAY of that game, we totally manhandle them all game long. Road wins over the NY Giants & Bears. Split games w/ the Cowboys & Playoff Win over the Saints. This team can play with the BEST that the NFC has to offer! They're getting beter & better each time they step on the field. The 49er's R NOT going to sweep us like they did last year. Poor QB play again was the reason we loss. This is a new year, it's not happening this yr. I got a feeling their about to get on roll & do some special things. They have this big chip on their shoulders that only makes them even more hungery to prove everyone wrong.I love that attitude! WINNING ATTITUDE! Don't count em out......

I have been exited since before this season started
Too many cool things have happened to mention. I have always liked Dave's way of articulating the game to those of us who haven't played at hi level, but he is hitting them out of the park almost daily with this bunch... It's like as soon as he says it you go exactly! Thanks Dave! You won't get bloody for being the first guy to walk through the wall with this gang, I guarantee it!

I like where this season is going
If they can win on the road against Miami and Buffalo, then this team has an excellent chance at going 11-5. Starting 0-3 in the division hurts but the Hawks are getting stronger each week as the offense keeps evolving. They could be dangerous in the playoffs.

    I agree!
There is something cool in every game, even when we can't pull out the win. I am never ashamed of what they have done--only sorry if they don't win because I want the win for them. Dave seems to be on the same page as those of us who are looking at the glass as half full!
