Wasn't Pretty but We'll Take It!
The south side of Chicago has been a nightmare for the Mariners the past few years, going 3-19 over the last 22 games. In his season debut, Blake Beavan goes 5 innings, giving up 5 runs after the Mariners offense scored 5 runs in the top of the fifth inning to give him a 6-1 lead. He looked great in the first four innings but somehow lost his mark in the fifth. Nevertheless, the Mariners hang on to beat the White Sox 8-7 in the 10th inning. Hey, we'll take it given the struggles we have had against Chicago in recent history. It is clear the impact a solid lead-off hitter can make in a lineup when there are legitimate 3 & 4 hitters. The tandem of Franklin Gutierrez and Michael Saunders so far is getting the job done in the lead-off spot for Seattle and Kendrys Morales and Michael Morse are delivering in the 3 & 4 spots as well, which is showing the promise of a better offense for the 2013 Seattle Mariners. Although there are still many questions to be answered with this team, it is clear they will be more competitive this year. A win today in Chicago will assure the M's a winning road trip to start the season and that would be a welcomed start to the 2013 campaign! Let's break out the peanuts and Cracker Jacks and enjoy some Mariners baseball!

I really think it's time to address the issue of umpires squeezing our pitchers. I don't mind so much if they call a ball a strike, but when they call strikes balls, it makes for a frustrating night. Wedge needs to get vocal about this. We saw it much of last year and it is beginning again this year.
