Tharold Simon is the quintessential Seahawks pick
The Seahawks' selection of Tharold Simon was another sign of their affinity for oversized cornerbacks as well as their willingness to take on a player with a less-than-impeccable record.

Mark my words, he will replace Brandon Browner in the next few years!

    Makes sense
Build your team concept around players that aren't the "big thing" right now. The 3-4 defense is hot, so players that fit into that scheme are hard to get cheap and hard to hang on to. Seattle has gone unconventional and been able to get talented guys for peanuts (comparatively).

Wide receivers aren't 5'10", 185lbs anymore (well, except for Wes Welker) and corners are occasionally being asked to cover 6'5" tight ends, so the days of the 5'9" corner that can run a 4.3 are coming to a close.

    Except nickle, slot corners
There's still a place for the smaller, faster corner. All comes down to defensive philosophy, but I love the strategic chess match's that are going in on in the league right now...

But most teams are looking at a safety/CB hybrid as the nickel CB, look at Arizona's pick of Tyrann "Herbal Life" Mathieu as a good example of the trend. The Kelly Jennings type CBs can't help much in run support and can't cover a big, fast TE very well.

    Love this pick
I absolutely love this 5th round pick from LSU. Simon is a big physical corner. I saw video on him. He is not afraid to be physical at the line of scrimmage with big receivers. Teams are not going to want to play the Seahawks.
