Microsoft needs to gain traction with latest Windows Phone
Is it Microsoft's last, best chance to become a player in the mobile phone market? Some analysts say the company's much ballyhooed launch of the new Nokia Lumia 900 smartphone over the weekend is a make or break moment for the company's future.

    forget the phone
if you want me to switch to a smart phone then get rid of the data plan requirement for the phone discount. I have wi-fi at home and at work. I don't need the data access in the car because I'm not supposed to be using the thing while I drive, right?

it's name is Windows Phone (I guess)
the nokia lumia is the name of the actual phone... like the Thunderbolt is the name of the phone, but it uses Android. oh..and it has 80,000 apps, but it's missing the "big" ones like Angry Birds: Space. Angry Birds? you'd not get a phone because it doesn't have Angry Birds? How stupid is that?

    Psssssst.... Microsoft
If you want to sell more of your phones, you have to go out to the source. Go to the POP.

The last time I upgraded, the salesman talked me out of the Windows phone. He said they didn't have the apps that the Android and IPhone have and they are still new in comparison to the previously mentioned.

As a result, I stayed with the Android. Hey, I just listened to the salesman.

Well, and the fact that I had researched the phone that I ended up buying prior to visiting their shop. I also looked into the Windows phone, but it was off in a corner all by itself. (and the salesman thing)

If you want to sell more phones, advertising alone is not going to do it. You need some guys at the POP to educate potential consumers. (As well as keep an ear on the sales staff).

Oh, and incentives don't hurt either.....

    It's awesome!!
I have a Windows phone. I love it. The interface is much easier to navigate than the iPhone or Droid.

They launched the thing on Easter Sunday
You know, the day when most stores are closed.

Instead of big lines featured in the local press getting the tech fans all excited they got nothing.

Who launches a product on Easter Sunday?

And who calls their phone a Lumia 900?

Hey man, I just scored a Nokia Lumia 900.

    Too funny.

Not if the marketing department has anything to say about it.
I have no use for a smartphone but you can see what they did with the Zune. It's a shame, really. The interface is far more intuitive.

If you want to buy a phone, you owe it to yourself to try it
Make your own decision. Try an iPhone an Android and a Windows Phone. The world isn't one size fits all, neither are phones.

If you don't try all three, you're not doing yourself a favor. At $99, I certainly am going to try the Lumia 900 when my Verizon contract is up in 3 weeks.

"If they can gain traction with the Lumia 900 they're actually going to stand a chance to be the number 3 phone company..."

Easy there, Overachiever. Let's not set our goals TOO high.
