Boeing sends machinists $10K contract signing bonus

Jan 16, 2014, 11:04 AM | Updated: 11:18 am

About 30,000 Boeing machinists in the Puget Sound area now have $10,000 each in their pockets.

Boeing has paid out the majority of the bonus for accepting, after a second vote Jan. 3, a new eight year contract extension. Boeing will pay machinists another $5,000 for accepting this deal in 2020.

The checks sent out Thursday means there is an extra $300 million pumped into the Washington economy.

The deal guaranteed the 777X would be built in Washington.

Days after machinists voted to accept the contract, the union said some members asked for a recount or a third vote. They said they filed complaints with the National Labor Relations Board over the timing and that they’re hoping pressure from thousands of union members will convince the international president to another vote.
