A murder suspect is dead after a confrontation with Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies Wednesday morning.
Pierce County Sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer says the suspect fired a shot and deputies returned fire.
“When they were confronted by the suspect with the weapon, the suspect raised the gun, fired a round,” says Troyer. “Our deputies fired rounds and struck him and he went down and died from his injuries.”
Troyer says the deputies had responded about an hour earlier to a shots-fired call at the Woodmark apartments in South Tacoma where they found the body of a 23-year-old man.
Deputies were investigating when they received a call about a man fitting the shooter’s description at the nearby Drake Apartments.
Troyer says the suspect has white supremacy ties and was a known drug dealer in Pierce County.
The motive is not clear, but detectives believe it involved drugs.
