Well, this is embarrassing. Can someone let Councilmember Kshama Sawant that she’s pushing a protest against something that isn’t happening?

Via Twitter, Sawant requested her dozens of professional activists show up to a Planned Parenthood in Seattle on behalf of Seattle Clinic Defense. She’d like you to join her and her fellow activists “…as we stand with Seattle Clinic Defense against the right wing Patriot Prayer.”

The protest is meant to defend Planned Parenthood against Joey Gibson and Patriot Prayer. Only, neither Gibson nor Patriot Prayer are scheduled to be there.

“No, I don’t know where this is coming from,” Patriot Prayer founder Joey Gibson told the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. “They made an assumption we’re going to be there Saturday. I’m definitely not going to be there. We’re not going to be there.”

The protest’s Facebook page describes the event, in part, this way:

Joey Gibson, failed senate candidate and Patriot Prayer leader threatened to turn the scene outside of Planned Parenthood into a “circus” when he confronted clinic defenders last month. We need everyone out to say no to anti-choice intimidation, and we won’t go back to the days of clinic blockades and violence like those conducted by Operation Rescue.

We aim to provide a peaceful, calm, pro-choice presence and the clinic will be open during the time of the defense. Please wear bright pink and bring bold, colorful signs that show that we stand with Planned Parenthood!

According to Gibson, pro-life activists show up at this Planned Parenthood on the first Saturday of every month. Usually, he says, there are only about 10 to 12 pro-life activists there and pro-choice activists surround them to harass and intimidate them.

Consequently, Gibson and Patriot Prayer showed up last month to offer them some protection. They were successful. But that was never meant to be a recurring event. Indeed, Patriot Prayer has another event scheduled for Saturday.

“Has there been any indication that they will actually show?” asked an activist on the event page. “I thought I’d seen JG [Joey Gibson] would be somewhere else, but I’d love to know if you’ve seen anything specifically related to this.”

I guess Seattle Clinic Defense forgot to alert Sawant to what they discovered. They posted a response to the question: “We don’t know for sure, but they came unannounced last month, so we’d rather be prepared!”

Seems like Sawant is trying to gin up interest in the event she supports. One may wonder if, after Gibson doesn’t show up, Sawant takes credit for scaring them away … from a protest they were never showing up to.
