Seattle police are investigating a shooting that took place on a bus in SoDo that left one person seriously injured from a gunshot wound.

King County Metro says that the bus was a RapidRide C line from West Seattle to ioneer Square. The incident occurred at about 11:18 a.m. as the bus was headed northbound on Fourth Avenue South and South Walker Street.

A 51-year-old man was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition with a gunshot wound. A 88-year-old man was also transported with other injuries and is in stable condition.

Witnesses told officers that the younger man violently pushed the older male as he was trying to get on the bus. The older man produced a handgun and shot the other man at some point during the disturbance. He fell and struck his head in the bus stairwell as he was trying to exit.

Both men are expected to survive. No other passengers were injured.

Police recovered a handgun at the scene. Detectives are reviewing video from the bus to help determine what started the confrontation.

Sean Edwards was still shaky as he relived what occurred on this bus ride.

“Somebody’s firing a gun,” said Edwards, “yeah, you’re going to hit the floor and try and get away.”

He said he was riding near the back of the bus when he noticed a commotion up front.

“It was just a bunch of people,” Edwards said. “And you could tell two of them were kind of tussling a little bit. And that was it.”

“I remember hearing some gunshots,” said a passenger who didn’t want her face shown. “I don’t exactly remember how many. And then people were running towards the back of the bus.”

The 20 passengers on board took cover and crawled to safety.

“Back door towards the street,” said Edwards, describing the path he took.

“I’m going to take a Lyft home,” the female passenger said.  “And might be a couple days before I get back on the bus. But I don’t have another option.”

KIRO 7’s Deborah Horne contributed to this report.
