Representing West Seattle and South Park’s District 1, Herbold was elected to her first term in 2005. She penned a statement on her reelection website, laying out her motivations for running again.

I believe the very best investment that Seattle can make in our city’s future is an investment in our people. Investing in people is progressive, innovative, ‘cutting edge,’ and is guaranteed to provide a positive return for our city as any other kind of investment we could make. If I am re-elected to the City Council, I will continue to invest in us, our youth, housing, our culture, our small businesses, public safety and criminal justice reform, mass transit, civil rights, and our environment.

Opposing Herbold in District 1 will be entrepreneur Jesse Greene, Seattle Police Lieutenant Brendan Kolding, lawyer Phillip Tavel, and relative question mark Isaiah T. Willoughby. Willoughby registered to run in December, but has no affiliated party or website.

Herbold joins fellow councilmembers Kshama Sawant and Debora Juarez as the only incumbents out of the seven up for reelection to officially announce their campaigns. District 6 Councilmember Mike O’Brien has registered for reelection, but has yet to make a formal announcement.

Sally Bagshaw (District 7), Rob Johnson (District 4), and Council President Bruce Harrell (District 2) have all expressed that they will not be seeking reelection.
