Seattle’s favorite greasy spoon Beth’s Cafe has been around since 1954, and now, the property it sits on is up for sale.

A Redfin listing posted Friday shows that that the 15,280 square-foot three-parcel block of land Beth is nestled is for sale, with an asking price of $6 million.
The listing’s description notes that the land would be eligible for upzoning if the Mandatory Housing Affordability legislation being weighed by city council passes. That would potentially allow for the building of a multi-story apartment complex.
“Early massing studies have indicated the potential for a mixed-use development with 68 units and reduced parking requirements,” the Redfin listing notes.
The Stranger spoke to Beth’s general manager, who clarified that the property is for sale, but that the restaurant is “not planning on going anywhere or closing the business.”
How exactly that would figure in should the property sell to an ambitious developer is unclear.
