“This has been a very successful enterprise in Washington in legalizing marijuana, and I believe it’s time for the nation to legalize,” said Inslee.

Inslee announced a measure back in January to grant pardons to certain people with past marijuana convictions in Washington state, citing the move Thursday as “a step forward in the effort to reduce racial disparity in our judicial system.”

When pressed on whether he supports measures in Oregon and Colorado to decriminalize drugs like psychedelic mushrooms, he remained noncommittal.

“I would consider it, and I haven’t had a chance to think about it, so I can’t give you a yes or no,” he noted.

Inslee also spoke out against the electoral college, advocating in favor of a straight popular vote for the presidential election. He went on to emphasize the need to end both the filibuster and gerrymandering of districts.

On Wednesday night, he participated in a CNN Town Hall, the first of five the network is holding for 2020 presidential candidates. Also set to take part are New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, author Marianne Williamson, and businessman Andrew Yang.
