Seattle-area drivers will be without the new 99 tunnel tonight. There is a full closure, both directions, between 10 p.m. tonight and 8 a.m. tomorrow. The state needs to take the entire fire-suppression system offline to update the software.
State promises no more I-5 Tacoma lanes shifting after this month
We lucked out a bit on the biggest potential construction slowdown this weekend, when the state postponed the first wave of lane reductions on northbound I-5 through the Nisqually River Bridge. The weather just isn’t good enough for the project to get started.
The weather is still holding, at least right now, for the lane shift and re-striping in Tacoma. Northbound drivers should expect a new lane configuration over the weekend. They will jog to the left between McKinley and Portland Avenue.
I-5 southbound drivers need to prepare for a late opening of the express lanes on Sunday morning. They normally open at 8 a.m. That will be delayed until 10:30 a.m, as the Rock and Roll Marathon will be using those lanes in the morning.
To cap things off paving work on Bellevue Way Southeast will close two lanes between Southeast 30th and 112th Avenue Southest. Drivers will also have restricted turning access.
