Spady: AOC claims her desired pay raise would help you, not her

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, pay raise...

I was born to be in politics. This became apparent when I was two years old, and my mother caught me climbing the kitchen counter to get to the cookie jar. I was in a full-on leg cast, but that didn’t stop be from getting what I wanted.

When my mom discovered me, hand in jar. She said in a stern motherly voice, “What are you doing up there?”

I turned, smiled, reached out the cookie and responded, “I’m getting a cookie for you!”

When she told me she that she didn’t want a cookie, I asked, “Can I have it?”

This behavior was recently mirrored by the one and only Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, when she advocated for a pay raise for members of Congress. Rank-and-file members of Congress have made $174,000 per year since 2009, and have voted down the option of a roughly $4,000 raise every year since.

Well, this year, the self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist AOC spoke in favor of the potential raise on the behalf of little people like us, after Congressional Democrats nixed it.

“Voting against a pay, it’s not even like a raise — it’s a cost of living adjustment,” she said. “You can vote against a cost of living adjustment all you want, and it’ll look good on its surface, but every cost of living adjustment that gets bypassed, is voting to increase the pressure to exploit loopholes and legal to kind of lean on other ways to enrich one’s self.”

It’s so simple — she wasn’t getting the cookie for herself. She was getting it for you! She advocated for her raise so that all of us can get a raise! It’s a cost of living adjustment for her and for America!

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median U.S. household income was $61,372 in 2017. This means that Ocasio-Cortez’s $174,000 salary is $114,628 more than the average household in America.

Even here in Seattle, the median income is $90,000 less than what she earns. Plus, she is eligible for up to 15 percent more from “outside earned income.”

It may seem like she’s doing rather well for herself, but it’s not all sunshine, puppy dogs, and rainbows in D.C. Members of Congress don’t get any perks when it comes to finding housing, and the average rent of a one-bedroom apartment in D.C. is $2,155.

I wonder how much she pays for her boujee apartment equipped with its very own garbage disposal? Must be tough to get by.

She does admit that her vote may not portray the best image of herself.

“It may not be optics. It may not be great optics. It may not, like, look the best,” she noted.

Yeah Alexandria, it doesn’t look the best; it looks bad.
