In 2004, Maureen Browning started a non-profit called Friendship Adventures, which was inspired by love for her brother with down syndrome.
Friendship Adventures is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of people with developmental disabilities by providing social, recreational and educational activities in a safe, engaging environment – building interpersonal skills, confidence and lifeline friendships…one smile at a time!
It started with a Saturday evening dance, and turned into a year-long calendar of activities filled with sporting events, bowling, cruises, barbecues, camping trips and many more activities designed to provide a safe environment to enjoy life, enjoy friendships, and build memories.
Years later, there are 1,500 names on the Friendship Adventures distribution list, and Maureen Browning is a hero to all of those smiling faces.
KIRO Radio and your community credit union, WSECU are proud to honor Maureen Browning as a Hometown Hero and award her with $2,000 as a way to say thank you for all you do.
