Nikki Couffer, WSECU's Hometown Hero, June 2014
Nikki Couffer is a licensed veterinary tech and instructor at a local technical training center serving students from 44 different high schools. Nikki is passionate about the care and welfare of animals, and her students and fellow teachers find her dedicated, vivacious and spirited.
Nikki is also a native of the Oso – Darrington community, so when the Oso mudslide occurred this Spring, she was compelled to respond in the way only she knows how. Nikki used her unique training to tirelessly care for the dozens of search dogs assisting in the rescue and recovery efforts, keeping them healthy, strong, hydrated and able to do their important jobs. Nikki was just one of the many people who put their own lives and jobs on hold to assist, sometimes volunteering for over 16 hours at a time.
Not only did her selfless service inspire others, but Nikki was forever changed as she watched the volunteers around her who inspired her to keep on working and pushing on.
KIRO Radio 97.3 FM and WSECU are proud to honor Nikki Couffer with $2,000 as our Hometown Hero, as a way to say thank you for all she does.
