A woman was killed and two children were badly hurt in a collision east of Redmond early Tuesday.

The collision happened on Redmond Fall City Road/SR 202 near Ames Lake Road shortly before 5 a.m. The road was closed at the scene for several hours while troopers investigated.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said the children, one an infant and the other about 4 years old, were taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash – a black car and a white pickup. The woman and children were in the black car, and a man was driving the pickup. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Johnson said the truck was in the eastbound lane and the car may have been turning around on the highway when the crash happened, but the circumstances are still under investigation.

Video from the scene showed it was foggy in the area.
