Seattle’s Golden Gardens Beach is closed to swimmers until further notice after a sewer overflow at the north end of the park.

Lakes in Kirkland, Burien close for E. Coli and toxic algae

The overflow has already been stopped, but water samples still revealed “elevated levels of bacteria.” Seattle Public Utilities is prohibiting all swimming, wading, or fishing at Golden Gardens until new samples show “acceptable levels.”

This comes as King County is warning people to avoid contact with water in the Duck Island part of Green Lake in Seattle, due to toxic algae. Green Lake often sees its algae population explode in the summer months, leading to frequent warnings and closures for swimmers and pet owners. That said, the lake’s swimming beaches remain open.

Back in early June, Kirkland’s Juanita Beach was closed after officials detected “high levels” of E.Coli, while Lake Burien tested positive for toxic algae.
