Semi-truck fire in Pierce County prompts lane closures

A brush fire burned early Monday along SR 512 in Pierce County after a semi-truck caught fire, prompting lane closures.

According to the Department of Transportation, the truck caught fire around 2 a.m. on SR 512 eastbound near Portland Avenue East. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital.
The fire prompted closure of eastbound lanes and some westbound lanes. At 6 a.m., the eastbound lanes were still blocked. Westbound lanes reopened around 4 a.m.
Drivers should find alternate routes for their commute.
No word yet on what caused the fire.
