KIRO Radio 97.3 FM’s Tracy Taylor takes a look at bus safety now that school has started across the Puget Sound, in the latest edition of Streetwise.
Tracy spoke with Theo White, former school bus driver and current Highline School District bus dispatch, who explained that no matter what, drivers need to stop when the bus’ stop paddle is out.
The biggest question from drivers is what to do when a bus is stopped on a two-lane road.
“Everybody stops,” White said. “Oncoming traffic stops, traffic behind the bus stops.”
The fine for blowing through that stop paddle is about $400. And many buses are now equipped with cameras.
