The City of Bellevue has selected a new police chief, and say he is “the best” for the job.

Bellevue City Manager Brad Miyake made the announcement Monday morning, saying candidate Stephen Mylett had accepted the city’s conditional offer to be its next chief of police.

Jason Rantz: Is Bellevue Police Department going for B-listers in chief search?

“Finding the best for Bellevue has been our top priority since we began this recruitment last summer,” Miyake said in a news release. “After a very extensive and thorough search, the community, including our police officers, voiced resounding support for Chief Mylett. I am confident he will do an outstanding job serving the Bellevue community, leading the police department and working with our regional partners.”

In November, city leaders rejected all five police chief candidates and decided to start the search process again from scratch.

Once the offer is finalized, Mylett is expected to report to duty in early April.

Interim chief Jim Montgomery previously agreed to stay on until a replacement was hired. He replaced Linda Pillo, who retired in April after 28 years on the force and seven years as chief.
