Seattle council candidate campaign sign defaced with racist graffiti
Seattle police are investigating after a Seattle City Council candidate’s campaign sign was defaced with racist graffiti.
Shaun Scott is running in District Four in North Seattle. His campaign’s finance director says he woke up early to find a sign in his yard spray-painted with foul words and a racial slur against African Americans.
“If they were ever identified, I would like someone to ask them if they were fully cognizant of the impact of what they did, and levying that word as a racial insult against a black person, if they’re aware of what that comes with,” he told KIRO Radio.
But, he says it wasn’t the first time. He says other signs have been defaced; this is just the first time it’s been reported.
Police Chief Carmen Best Tweeted out “Hate has no place in our City” and asked anyone with information to call 911.
