An officer used a Taser to stop a man who randomly attacked a person outside the King County Courthouse, Wednesday morning. It’s an area that’s become notorious for crime.

Sheriff’s Sergeant Ryan Abbot says the suspect began punching a defense attorney.

“The victim was being punched, and a Metro bus driver just happened to be near by, saw the assault occurring, and he came to the aid of the victim. He was also assaulted by the suspect,” he said.

A King County marshal ran out of the courthouse, ordered the suspect to stop and Tased him when he didn’t.

“The court marshal deployed a Taser; it was successful,” Sergeant Abbot said. “The suspect went down to the ground and we were able to take him into custody.”

Officers arrested the suspect. Little information is available yet about him.

Seattle police have stepped up patrols in the area. Numerous judges, court employees and jurors have reported being attacked and harassed. A few months ago Superior Court Judge Sean O’Donnell told KIRO Radio what workers have to deal with on an ongoing basis.

“It can be everything from being yelled at, harassed, assaulted, exposed to, spit on. They have to navigate human waste, feces, urination. They have to navigate needles, they have to navigate tents,” he said at the time.
