A man was shot Friday night in Mountlake Terrace, and things took a dramatic turn on his way to the hospital.

It took additional time for the victim to arrive at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle because he was taken in a car that ended up being pulled over.

Police said he was shot in the lower back. Neighbors near 236th Street Southwest and 49th Place West were stunned.

“What we thought we heard was fireworks going off because the neighbors always light off fireworks for when we win the game,” neighbor Chris Heick said. “Absolutely not in a million years thought that this was gunfire in our neighborhood, so it’s quite concerning.”

The victim was put into a car, and the passengers were interviewed by police after the vehicle was pulled over. Neighbors also were being interviewed.

“Right now, we’re just trying to identify if there’s any suspects that are outstanding and trying to piece everything together,” said Mike Haynes of Mountlake Terrace Police.
