A teenage driver struck and killed a 77-year-old pedestrian Monday morning at an intersection near I-90 in Bellevue.

The collision happened near SE 38th and 150th Avenue SE, just south of an I-90 interchange in Eastgate. The driver was traveling westbound, making a right turn at the time, according to police.

“The person was actually dragged quite a ways by the vehicle,” said police officer Seth Tyler. “There is a crosswalk in the area. We don’t know if the pedestrian was in that crosswalk.”

It was dark at the time of the collision. The 18-year-old driver is cooperating with investigators, Tyler said. Police are also checking traffic cameras in the area for more evidence. They do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.

The police investigation disrupted rush hour traffic for hours, forcing some drivers bound for the freeway to find another route.
