Hearing about a bookstore closing in the age of Amazon is nothing new, as the ongoing closures of Barnes & Nobles in the area are a frequent reminder.

On Saturday, the Barnes & Noble bookstore in downtown Seattle’s Pacific Place shut its doors for good, which many found out as a result of sign that said: “This Barnes & Noble is closing on Jan. 18. Thank you for your patronage over the past 22 years.” All those people who read on sofas without paying for anything will have to find somewhere else to go.

January 2nd is Christmas for those with Seattle library fines

Barnes & Noble has closed more than 150 stores in the past decade, including one in West Seattle within the last year and at the University Village in 2011. There are approximately 600 locations left, with profits shrinking and the stock prices plummeting. In 2020 hedge fund operator Elliott Advisors acquired Barnes & Noble.

King County Library lost a cutthroat book sorting competition to New York

There are still locations at Northgate Mall and near Westfield Southcenter. This closing leaves the downtown Seattle core with no general bookstores, according to the Seattle Times.
