A rally in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day moved through Seattle Monday afternoon, with a series of workshops and community activities taking place through the morning hours.

This year’s MLK celebration — organized by the Seattle MLK Jr. Coalition — features a theme of “20/20 Vision,” to “reflect the clarity of Dr. King’s dream and the power YOU have in 2020 to reclaim and envision it.”

Among the stated goals are to “ensure everyone is counted, address urban and rural poverty, close the wage gap, take action on climate crisis, unite immigrant families,” and more.

The day’s festivities kicked off at 8:30 a.m. at Garfield High School, with a “Career and Opportunity Fair.” That was followed by workshops on “inspiring topics” at 9:30 a.m.

Seattle’s long-ago battle to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A rally in Garfield’s gymnasium took place at 11 a.m., leading into a march that moved through downtown Seattle beginning at 12:30 p.m. The march concluded with a rally at City Hall Park on 3rd Avenue.
