Seattle Police Chief: Fatal shooting in downtown Seattle ‘unacceptable’
Officers are reviewing video footage from every surveillance camera they can find for more information.
“We will relentlessly investigate tonight’s shooting at 3rd and Pine until all those responsible are brought to justice,” Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said in a Wednesday night Tweet.
Police are asking anyone with photo or video evidence of Wednesday night’s shooting to submit it here.
One victim died at the scene, said to be a woman between age of 40 and 50. Seattle Fire Chief Harold Scoggins said medics took five people to Harborview Medical Center, but the hospital reported seven victims.
Among those injured included a 9-year-old boy, who is in satisfactory condition, and could possibly get out of the hospital Friday. His father says he was walking to catch a ferry with his Port Orchard family when he was shot in the upper thigh.
A 55-year-old woman is in serious condition, and remains in the intensive care unit. A 32-year-old man is also in satisfactory condition and is said to be improving. Four victims were released Wednesday night.
Two of the people shot were reportedly Amazon employees according to a statement issued by the company. Amazon sent a mobile alert out to employees Wednesday night asking that anyone still at work remain in their respective buildings shortly after the shooting took place.
The employees were shot outside Amazon’s “Blue Shift” offices in the downtown Macy’s building.
The areas where the shooting victims were wounded include the legs, buttocks, chest and abdomen, according to Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg.
Forty-five police units were dispatched to the scene at the time of the shooting. Seattle Police Chief Carmen Best said to expect a strong police present in the area “until further notice.”
Best also said there is no reason to believe this shooting is connected to two previous shootings in Seattle within the past 24 hours.
“I don’t see any future danger to the public. We’ve locked down the scene,” Best said.
Tyler Parsons, an employee at Victrola Coffee Shop, told The Seattle Times people ran to take cover behind the register and he rushed some customers and a co-worker into a storage room.

Governor Jay Inslee Tweeted a response Wednesday night:
I am horrified and dismayed to hear about the shooting in Seattle tonight. We grieve for the one individual confirmed dead in the shooting, and wish a full and speedy recovery to those who were injured. I know Seattle Police are doing everything they can to find the perpetrator and I join Mayor Durkan and Chief Best in urging anyone with possible information about this shooting to call the tip line at 206-233-5000.
This was the second shooting in downtown on Wednesday. Police responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Blanchard involving Seattle police and King County deputies around 3 p.m.
Seattle police say the suspect in the earlier shooting was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. No officers or deputies were injured.
On Tuesday, a 55-year-old man was found shot in a stairwell at Westlake Center. Police said he later died from his injuries.
