Two major road closures on SR 520 and Highway 99 this weekend are expected to slow down drivers in the Seattle area.
On Friday at 10 p.m. the crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation closed SR 99 from Valley Street through the Battery Street Tunnel. The closure will give tunnel crews the space they need to move underground utility lines.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the SR 99 closures will extend south to Spokane Street to allow WSDOT bridge inspectors to conduct their semiannual survey of the viaduct.
The highway will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday.
All lanes of SR 520 will be closed from Montlake Boulevard to I-405 starting Friday at 11 p.m.
The SR 520 closure will allow crews to begin demolishing the “Ramps to Nowhere,” as well as stripe the roadway east of the SR 520 bridge.
SR 520 will also reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
