A tornado warning for west central Pierce County lasted less than 10 minutes, but it was the first warning of its kind in nearly 45 years.
According to KING 5, a waterspout was first spotted near Anderson Island shortly before 12:30 p.m., when the warning was issued.
The waterspout was moving at 25 mph, and as it headed east towards Steliacoom, it was reportedly seen by witnesses in Dupont and at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
The National Weather Service reports the warning was the first of its kind in Puget Sound area since Dec. 12, 1969, when a tornado warning was issued for Camp Washington.
