A homeless man in Seattle was nearly crushed to death Thursday morning when he was tossed into a garbage truck.

The Seattle Fire Department said it appeared the man was sleeping in a dumpster on 11th Avenue between Pike and Pine Streets when the garbage truck arrived for its morning pickup.

The man was tossed into the truck with the rest of the contents. Workers noticed the man before the load was compacted.

He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with unknown injuries.

Construction workers on a job site near the dumpster said the man often slept in the garbage containers.
