Rantz: Dow Constantine deletes remarkably tone deaf Seattle riot tweet

Several hours after Antifa and anarchists destroyed downtown Seattle, King County Executive Dow Constantine tweeted a remarkably tone deaf message about wearing masks during the Justice for George Floyd protest-turned-riot.

Constantine’s team deleted the tweet after being called out. But, we have the screen shot.

Rantz: Seattle Antifa violence ruined a peaceful Justice for George Floyd protest

Dow’s tweet disaster

At 8:11 p.m. on Saturday night, the King County Executive bragged that his staff handed out 1,000 cloth face coverings to Seattle’s George Floyd protesters, despite the county’s stay-at-home order that he previously positioned following as a matter of life and death.

The timing of the tweet, which was most likely scheduled to give the appearance that he was active when he wasn’t leading, was shocking.

For several hours before his tweet, downtown Seattle was thrown into total chaos during the protest as Antifa and anarchists turned a peaceful demonstration into a free-for-all riot. Mayor Jenny Durkan declared a civil emergency and a 5 p.m. curfew as businesses were completely destroyed. Looters were stealing in plain view. The National Guard was even called.

And Constantine? He was completely MIA.

Phantom tweet, missing Executive

Constantine (or more likely his team) decided to delete the tweet after countless responses calling him out as tone deaf. Unfortunately, I can’t quote any of the responses because he deleted the tweet. This calls into question whether or not he’s running afoul of public records rules that should force him to maintain a record of his tweets on his government account.

Constantine did not acknowledge that he deleted the tweet on his government account nor his personal account. In fact, as of 11:30 p.m. Saturday night, Constantine hasn’t commented about the Seattle protest turning into a lawless riot. His website doesn’t even have a mention of the riots and looting, nor the Durkan order. The site was last updated on May 29, 2020.

What exactly has he been doing as one of his cities was burning?
