A worker is in the hospital with serious leg injuries after a construction accident in Lynnwood.

A wall collapsed Tuesday morning at a construction site on Alderwood Mall Boulevard, badly injuring one worker.

“Firefighters had to rescue one person from the structure,” said Jennye Cooper, fire and life safety educator for South Snohomish County Fire and Rescue, which responded to the scene. “They determined that they had serious injuries to their lower extremities … a leg injury.”

Cooper said firefighters do not know how or why the wall fell down.

“The incident itself is going to be under investigation, probably by the site contractor,” Cooper said.

At this point, Cooper said it is unknown whether the construction company or Washington State Labor and Industries will conduct the investigation.

The intersection had been closed off during the emergency response, but it has opened back up again.
