Seahawks fans overwhelm Washington State Ferry system

UPDATE at 12:04 p.m.:
Washington State Ferries says there is no longer an extended wait for passengers.

Seahawks fans from across the Puget Sound found it tough to get to Wednesday’s Super Bowl parade, as thousands overcrowded Washington State Ferries.

“We’ve lived here 25 years, never before have I seen this,” says longtime Winslow resident and ferry rider Jodi Kelly.

The ferry system was reporting holiday like traffic with one to two boat waits for even walk-on passengers.

“The ramp to the ferry is 10 deep with people in all their Seahawks gear,” Kelly says.

Cars jammed the streets in Winslow around the ferry terminal, taking up parking spots and blocking businesses around the area. While some fans might have missed the parade because of the delays, others like Kelly were just trying to get to work.

“I have to get to Seattle University,” she said. “I don’t think I’m getting there anytime soon.”

The Washington State Ferry system reported the parking lot at Bremerton was full about an hour before the parade start time.
