Former UW fraternity president sentenced for drugging, raping young woman

Sep 6, 2013, 4:30 PM | Updated: 4:34 pm

A former University of Washington fraternity president has been sentenced to a year behind bars on charges he drugged and raped a woman while on a date.

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Edwin De Boer took the woman out for dinner and drinks in November of 2012.

But the last thing she remembers about their date is sitting at a table, eating appetizers and drinking beer.

She told police she woke up the next morning in his bedroom, in pain, with no memory of how she got there.

According to lab results, she tested positive for a powerful sedative called Lorazepam, which can cause amnesia if taken with alcohol.

De Boer faced similar charges for rape at a UW fraternity several years ago. He took a plea deal in that case and served 15 days of community service.
