Ross: Nine gin-soaked raisins and faith could be the remedy we need

Like many of you, I haven’t gotten my shot yet. I’m not going to drive 50 miles to someone else’s neighborhood – I’d feel like a vaccination-crasher. But I will celebrate the vaccination of others!
“Lucia DeClerk was diagnosed with COVID last month on her 105th birthday and just got her second shot of the Pfizer vaccine,” said CBS News Correspondent Nikki Battiste.
And what makes Lucia even more special is that at age 2, she also survived the Spanish flu.
I liked hearing this story. Because I feel that with all the misery this pandemic has caused, it’s not enough just to control it. We need to publicly humiliate the virus itself – a virus which probably figured Lucia to be an easy target. But not so easy after all:
“She credits a regimen of nine gin-soaked raisins, and faith.”
Yes – an old arthritis remedy.
You take a box of golden raisins, put them in a little cup, and cover them with gin. A lot of you are asking: “Can we just skip the raisins?” NO! You soak them until the gin evaporates, and then eat nine raisins each day.
No one appears to know exactly why. So, it’s raisins and it’s faith.
“… pray, pray, pray,” Lucia said.
And Lucia has one more rule: No junk food.
And unlike other folk remedies spread by the media, the worst side effect of this is that you lose a little weight, and evaporate a lot of perfectly good gin.
