The charitable arm of the Seattle Mariners has announced $65,000 dollars in awards to three separate groups, in its bid to further the cause of racial equity.

The team will be distributing $20,000 to Seattle-based You Grow Girl!, which provides “mental and behavioral health services to female-identifying youth and families from BIPOC communities.”

Another $20,000 will be given to the King County Play Equity Coalition, addressing “lack of access and resources for all youth” through a collaboration with 100 participating organizations.

The final $25,000 will go to the Minority Business Executive Program out of the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, “which supports capacity building and access to capital for minority owned business.”

The money will be coming out of the team’s Community Impact Grant Program, created last July with the goal of distributing $1 million in community investments toward social justice and racial equity.

“By investing strategically to support partners working toward systemic change, particularly in BIPOC communities, we believe we can have a positive impact on the physical and mental health of our youth and help grow economic equity, particularly in under-resourced communities,” Mariners Executive Vice President Fred Rivera said in a written release.

Another round of grants will be awarded in July.
