Police arrested a man who they said was holed up in a building after a shooting in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District.

Officers were called to Yesler Way at South Boren Street on Friday evening.

A 58-year-old man was injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition, a Seattle Fire Department spokesperson said.

The suspected shooter ran to the building after he shot the victim in the hand, police said. That was near 10th Avenue South and South Washington Street.

Officers nearby heard the gunfire and responded, tracking the man to a building that was under construction.

“They suspect barricaded himself in the building, would not respond to officers’ calls to come out and surrender, so we called for more resources. The SWAT team went in and was able to safely and peacefully take the man into custody,” Seattle Police Department detective Valerie Carson said.

There was some type of altercation between the shooter and the victim just before the shooting, police said. It is not known what the dispute was about.

The investigation remains ongoing.
