Of Seattle’s four major professional sports franchises (not counting the Kraken), the Seahawks have been the only one to have not played in front of fans since the start of the pandemic last year. That will likely change when the team’s season kicks off this fall.

Safety measures to expect at Lumen Field for Sounders games

The Seahawks announced their full 17-game schedule on Wednesday evening, with their home opener slated for Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 19. While the team is still working on specifics, it says that it is “actively preparing to host fans at Lumen Field in the fall.”

“We are continuing to work closely with the NFL, as well as local public health and government officials on planning for gameday and will continue to follow all local guidelines for public sporting events,” it said in a release posted to the team’s website.

Tickets for the upcoming season’s games are currently on sale. While the Seahawks say that they are “hopeful for the future,” they will also be employing “fan-friendly ticket policies for refunds or account credits” should they only be allowed to host a limited number of attendees at home games to start the season.

Tacoma Rainiers first team in state to start using ‘vaccinated only’ seating

Barring any changes to public health guidelines, safety protocols at Lumen Field currently in use for the Sounders will largely be the same for the Seahawks.

Given that the season is still months away — as well as “frequently changing” conditions related to the ongoing pandemic — the Seahawks won’t be announcing specific guidelines for home games in 2021 until “later this summer.”

The Mariners, Sounders, and Storm have all been hosting a limited number of fans to start their own respective seasons. Both the Mariners and Sounders have also begun employing special seating and other perks for those who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
