A car fleeing Tacoma police crashed through a fence and onto I-5 Tuesday afternoon, snarling the afternoon commute.

Tacoma police say an officer saw the driver hit another car and then take off. The suspect sped southbound on Yakima Ave. and went about 15 blocks before losing control and careening down the embankment onto the southbound lanes of I-5.

“The driver was already missing a right rear tire and was trying to be evasive,” said Officer Loretta Cool.

Police say no one was injured in the crash, which blocked three lanes of I-5. The suspect was arrested for felony hit and run and eluding an officer.

Traffic quickly backed up for miles, stretching north of the King/Pierce county line.
