A man who was shot in the face in Seattle’s Pioneer Square Thursday morning had a warrant out for his arrest and has been taken into custody at Harborview Medical Center.

Martin Duckworth, 31, was wanted by the Department of Corrections for failing to check in with his community custody officer, according to DOC Spokesperson Chad Lewis.

Lewis said Duckworth has a lengthy criminal history and has been on community supervision since October 2011 when he completed a sentence for multiple drug convictions. He is considered a high risk violent offender.

Duckworth failed to check in with his corrections officer on Dec. 4, 2012.

“He’s violated terms of his supervision about five times,” Lewis said. “We’ve put him in jail each time.”

After he is treated at Harborview, Lewis said Duckworth with be transferred to the King County Jail.

Detective Renee Witt with the Seattle Police Department said a motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation in ongoing.

Witnesses at the scene described seeing a man trying to carjack others, but police say the victim was trying to get help.
