Deputies are investigating after a Gig Harbor homeowner fatally shot an intruder Sunday night.

Investigators said a man broke into a home in the 7600 block of Hidden Lane Northwest after 10 p.m.

According to deputies, the homeowner confronted the man, who they say was “intoxicated” and shot him.

The intruder, who was a 48-year-old man, died at the scene.

Deputies said the man has a family member that lives in the area, and detectives believe that may have been where he was going.

The homeowner was not taken into custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
